
Iole Fontana, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of EU Politics at the University of Catania, Sicily, Italy. Her research specializes in EU migration politics in the Mediterranean. Currently a Fulbright Schuman Scholar at the Center for Inter-American Border Studies at the University of Texas El Paso, she is conducting a comparative study of EU and U.S. migration policies at southern borders. She has previously held visiting positions at the London School of Economics, at the University Hassan II in Casablanca, and the University of Delaware as part of the SUSI program funded by the U.S. Department of State. She is also the scientific coordinator of the project DEPMI, funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the external dimension of Italian migration policies.
